Cleaning Your Tractor
Keeping your tractor clean can be an uphill battle. However, cleaning your tractor helps to keep dirt out of the engine and discourages corrosion. It’s more than worth it in maintenance terms. If you’re having trouble with keeping your tractor clean, follow this guide from King Machinery.
1. Remove Debris
You’ll have a much easier time cleaning your tractor if you can first remove all the larger debris. This can be accomplished by using a leaf blower to remove the outer layer of mud, grass, leaves, twigs, and so on. Many tractor owners forget to clean the undercarriage, so be sure to pay extra attention to that part of the equipment.
2. Rinse & Wash Exterior
Fill a bucket with soapy water and wipe everything down with a sponge. You’ll also need to rinse as you go to help avoid soap build-up. A scrub brush or automotive brush can be used if you’re having trouble cleaning your tractor’s nooks and crannies. Some tractor owners clean their equipment with a pressure washer rather than by hand. If you go this route, be careful not to directly spray delicate components like the mirror or sensors. Make sure that no water can find its way into your tractor’s engine. Wash top to bottom so that the soiled water doesn’t drip down and undo your progress.
3. Dry Your Tractor and Apply Wax
Once you’ve washed all the dirt and mud off the tractor, you can either air dry it or dry it off using an air compressor or leaf blower. Once the tractor has fully dried, apply wax and buff it out.
4. Wipe Down the Interior
Don’t forget that your tractor’s interior needs to be kept clean as well! A shop vacuum can be used to remove any dirt or debris from your tractor’s floorboards. Don’t forget to wipe down your tractor’s controls and seating as well.
